PINsentry gives you added protection for your accounts – as well as access to our full Online Banking service.
It’s a device that generates unique eight-digit codes, keeping your Online Banking transactions secure.
A PINsentry card reader is a small handheld device that you can insert your debit card or authentication card into.
Then depending on what process you’re trying to complete in Online Banking, you’ll be asked to type in your details to generate a unique eight-digit code.
Entering this code in Online Banking – either when you’re logging in or when making a transaction – gives you an extra level of security and protection.
You can find Mobile PINsentry in your Barclays app (if you’re registered). It has all the same functions as a PINsentry card reader, but without you having to carry an extra device around.
It can take up to 10 days after you register for the app for Mobile PINsentry to appear in it.
Accessible PINsentry is a voice-and-sound version of our standard PINsentry card reader with a larger display and an ergonomic key pad. It offers secure access to your Online Banking account and your app.
Accessible PINsentry comes with a user guide, available in a variety of formats, which details its functions and how to use them. It’s battery powered and works independently, so you don’t need to connect it to your computer. Visit the accessible PINsentry page to learn more. If you log in to Online Banking using PINsentry, you’ll be able to do much more with your money online.
Using PINsentry gives you the same features as logging in with your passcode and memorable word, plus these extra functions:
Log in to Barclays Online Banking using your passcode and memorable word.
Select the account services menu and choose ‘Upgrade to PINsentry’.
Once you’ve received your PINsentry card reader, go to the Online Banking login page and select ‘Log in using PINsentry card reader’.
Enter the last 4 digits of your debit card into Online Banking.
Place your debit card into the PINsentry card reader and press ‘IDENTIFY’. Enter your PIN and press ‘ENTER’.
An 8-digit code will appear on the screen of your card reader. Enter this code into the Online Banking login page and click log in to Online Banking.
The same level of protection as the PINsentry card reader, but with the convenience of your Barclays app.
Instead of using your PIN to verify your identity, Mobile PINsentry uses your unique app passcode.
Mobile PINsentry is automatically included in the app, so there’s no need to register separately. It will be activated approximately 10 days after you download it.
Download the Barclays app. Once registered, Mobile PINsentry can take up to 10 days to appear in your app.
Log in to your app using your unique app passcode.
Tap on your account management menu in the top left-hand corner of your app. You’ll then see the option for Mobile PINsentry.
To log in to Online Banking using Mobile PINsentry, tap ‘IDENTIFY’ on your Mobile PINsentry. This will generate a unique eight-digit code.
Go to your Online Banking login page and select the ‘Log in with mobile PINsentry’ option. This will prompt you to enter the unique eight-digit code generated by your Mobile PINsentry.
You’re now protected and can start using our full range of services in Online Banking.
This is used to sign for payments – like a virtual signature. You’ll be asked to use the ‘SIGN’ button when making a new payment in Online Banking.
