Request to register delegated authority

Before you begin, we need to check a few things with you.

  • UK Resident - If you’ve not held a Barclays account or product in the last six years, and you are a UK resident, you will need to verify your identity with the Barclays app
  • Non-UK Resident - If you you’ve not held a Barclays account or product in the last six years and you are not a UK resident, you cannot progress with this form. You will need to call us on 0345 075 7475 and choose option 1

Registration information

The following provides details of the relevant registrations required to allow Barclays to proceed, based on the type of document you have.

Lasting Power of Attorney Property & Finance you'll need to check which type of LPA you have, which will be detailed on the first page of the document:

  • Form LP1F Registration date and reference number at the bottom of page 1, together with OPG stamp on each page
  • Form LPA117 Stamp, registration date and reference number at the top of page 1 with OPG stamp on each page
  • Form LPA PA Stamp and registration date at the top of page 1 with OPG stamp on each page

Combined or Continuing Power of Attorney (Scottish PoA):

  • Your Certificate of Registration along with:
  • Paper copy embossed red seal on the first page and embossed on all subsequent pages, or:
  • Electronic copy has the Scottish Government Crest watermark on each page

Enduring Power of Attorney (England & Wales) Registration not required if the Donor still has capacity. If the Donor has lost capacity, document must have OPG stamps on each page.

Enduring Power of Attorney (Northern Ireland) Registration not required if the Donor still has capacity. If the Donor has lost capacity, document must have Office of Care & Protection stamps on each page.

Ordinary Power of Attorney (also known as a General Power of Attorney) no stamps required.

Court of Protection Order (CoP) Original CoPs have an official date stamp at the top of the first page and a seal on the bottom right of each page.

Appointeeship: The Appointee needs either a letter from the benefits agency stating they are an Appointee, or a Form BF57, wi th an official stamp in the top right hand corner of the first page.

Guardianship Missing Persons Order (GMPO) Must have an Order number and an Order date detailed.

Failure to successfully pass the Barclays app Identity Verification can lead to your registration being rejected and cause delays to your setup.

Are you a professional delegate or acting ‘jointly’?

Some instructions may require your signature, such as those below:

  • If you would like to provide written instructions that cannot be carried out via telephone banking, online banking or using a connect card
  • If you are acting on behalf of a mentally incapable donor where telephone banking, online banking or using a connect card wil l be insufficient for your needs and require a cheque book
  • If you are acting on behalf of a mentally incapable donor, where you will need to sign donor cheques
Do you have access to a printer and scanner and wish to provide us with your signature now?

If you don’t have access to a printer, or change your mind in the future, come and see us in branch at your earliest convenience to update your signature or order a cheque book.

  3. When asked to upload your documents, make sure you have your certified delegated authority document scanned and merged into a single PDF file, no bigger than 15MB in this order:
    a. Certified Delegated Authority document
    b. Signature form (if required).

You can certify a document as a true copy of the original by getting it signed and dated by a professional person.

Registration information:

You can certify a document as a true copy of the original by getting it signed and dated by a professional person. A certified copy should be certified by a professional person or someone well respected in the community (“of good standing”).

These may include:

  • Bank or building society official
  • Councillor
  • Minister of religion
  • Dentist or doctor
  • Chartered accountant
  • Solicitor or notary
  • Teacher or lecturer
  • Post Office (Document Certification Service)
  • Member of Parliament, or Scottish/Welsh/Northern Ireland Assembly Member
  • Serving police officer
  • Social worker
  • Embassy, consulate, or high commission officer in the country of issue

The certifier should not be related to, living at the same address as or in a relationship with the person who is the subject matter of the certified copy.

Special rules may apply to the certified copy, particularly if the original is issued outside the UK or by a non UK party.
