Using a Barclays contactless debit card or Barclaycard on Transport for London (TfL)

You can use any contactless card from us on TfL services, if they accept contactless payments.

If it’s your first time making a contactless payment, you’ll need to make a chip and PIN transaction first.

You don’t need to register your card with TfL to make contactless payments, but if you do it makes it easier to track your payments or request a refund.

How it works

  • Tap your card on the contactless reader, like you would use an Oyster card
  • You can pay for one person per journey, using one contactless card
  • TfL will charge you an adult-rate pay-as-you-go fare.

You can’t add your TfL travelcard or bus and tram pass to your Barclays contactless card.

TfL staff members sometimes check if you’ve paid your fare – they might ask you to tap the contactless card you used on a portable card reader.

You could be charged a maximum fare for each part of your journey if your card shows that you didn't touch in or out for any part of that journey. You could also get a penalty fare or be prosecuted if you don't touch in.

You should touch in and out with the same card to avoid being charged the maximum fare on both.
