Savings options and account opening
Our savings options
We have a range of account types on offer, including savings accounts, cash ISAs, bonds, savings for children, and investments. You can see and compare details of them all on our savings page. Depending on your choice, you can start saving today from as little as £1.
Applying for an account
You can open and manage most of our savings accounts in Online Banking
- If you haven’t already, you can register for Online Banking
- If you already use it, just log in and have a look at the savings options available to you
You can also use the Barclays app1 on your smartphone or tablet.
Returns and interest
With our savings accounts, any growth will be related to the interest rate you earn with your account.
Instant–access accounts mean you can get at your savings whenever you want to, while fixed–term accounts may need you to lock your money away for a period of time. Depending on the type of accounts, some may offer tiered rates of interest – so the more you save, the more you'll earn.
The interest you earn on your savings isn’t taxed. Please have a look at our quick guide to savings and investment page to learn more about your personal savings allowance and when you might have to pay tax.

Personal savings allowance information
What is a personal savings allowance?
Your personal savings allowance (PSA) is the total amount of interest you can earn each year across all your accounts with any bank or building society (not including ISAs) without paying tax.
For basic-rate taxpayers, the PSA is £1,000. For higher-rate taxpayers, it’s £500. Additional-rate taxpayers don’t have a PSA.
If you earn more in interest than your PSA, you’ll need to make sure you pay the tax that’s due to HMRC (or other tax authority). Go to HMRC’s site to see how to do this.
How do I get a summary of interest paid to my account?
Your first statement in each new tax year will show the interest paid to your account in the previous tax year.
If you need information on the interest credited to your accounts in the 2016-to-2017 tax year or later, you can request a summary in Online Banking or the Barclays app.
- In Online Banking, go to ‘Manage accounts’ and select ‘Interest summary’
- In the app, you’ll find that option in the ‘More’ and ‘Manage accounts’ menus
If you need information about interest from the 2015-to-2016 tax year or earlier, please contact us on the phone numbers shown in the ‘Get in touch’ section of this page.
