Can I take a break from my usual monthly mortgage repayments?

Coronavirus and your mortgage

Mortgage payment holidays. Please read our mortgage FAQs if your income has been affected by the coronavirus situation and you want a payment holiday for your mortgage.

Unless you have a Barclays Direct mortgage, we don’t currently offer payment holidays.

However, if you’ve overpaid on your mortgage you may be able to underpay for a period of time. To find out if you can, please check your mortgage terms and conditions or call us on 0333 202 7580. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm.

Barclays Direct mortgages (previously known as ING Direct Mortgages)

You may be able to take a payment holiday but we’ll need to discuss your financial situation first.

You’ll need to tell us why you want to take a break from your usual repayments, and we’ll ask you to fill out a form to tell us about your current income and spending.

If we agree to let you pause repayments, you’ll be limited to 6 payment holidays during the term of the mortgage. No more than 3 of those can be taken in a 12-month period. We’ll continue charging interest at the rate stated in your mortgage letter, and your repayment amount will increase to ensure you pay the balance by the end of the agreed term.

We won’t agree to a break from repayments if:

  • You’ve missed any repayments in the previous 12 months
  • Your mortgage is less than 6 months old or within the final 6 months of its term

Visit a branch or call us on 0333 202 7580 to arrange a payment break. Lines are open 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday.
