End of your mortgage term

What happens next

We take you step-by-step through what happens when your mortgage term ends.

What happens when your mortgage term ends

First of all, congratulations! Making the final payment on your mortgage is a huge achievement and a moment that should be celebrated.

There’s very little you need to do, but we’ve outlined below what happens when your mortgage is coming to an end.

  1. Around six weeks before your mortgage term ends, we’ll send you a final redemption statement, which outlines everything left to pay on your mortgage in the final month. You can see this whenever you like in Online Banking or in the Barclays app. If you’re not registered for these services, you can ask for a final redemption statement by calling us on 0800 022 40221 or visiting a branch.
  2. If you make your mortgage payments by Direct Debit, we’ll collect the final payment on the usual date and cancel your Direct Debit. If you pay by standing order, you should cancel this once your final payment is made.
  3. If there’s any credit on your mortgage, we’ll refund this to you within 15 working days.
  4. We’ll release the charge held on your property within 30 days of your mortgage being completed. You’ll receive a deed letter with the charge release confirmation, which you should sign and return to us, confirming where the deeds should be sent to.
