Authorised push payment scams

How we help protect you

Authorised push payment (APP) scams happen when criminals trick you into sending them money by pretending to be someone you know and trust. On 31 October, the Payment Services Regulator (PSR) published a report showing how well major UK banks are tackling this type of scam.

The report shows that we’re one of the best in the industry at helping protect you from APP scams. It also shows we’re one of the best banks at refunding people who do get scammed.

We take our responsibility to protect your money very seriously. As well as continuing to invest in robust security systems, we help protect you by:

  • Showing warning messages when you use our app or Online Banking to make a payment
  • Sending in-app notifications about the latest scams
  • Educating people about scams using social media, press releases and adverts
  • Sharing the latest guidance and information on our website
